1996 Georgie Boy Maverick 29 MBW

My friend is thinking of getting into RV's. Not knowing if they will actually use it often, they want to go with an older, less expensive unit. He's actually looking at this one: Georgie Boy Any issues with older units? Besides leaks, dry rot, etc? How about the motor? The add says the motor is a 7.5 liter Ford 460 fuel injected V8 with 102,000 miles.

Thanks,

Mando

  • Well we took a look at it yesterday. The guy did a good job of taking pictures where you couldn't see any damage. There was delamination everywhere. Right-rear bumper was bent in as well as fiber glass damage on the same corner. Missing door step, missing storage doors and other damage. To top it off, the guy had a friend stay the night in it a few days ago. He never went in there to clean up. We found urine everywhere in the bathroom (sink, counter, floor). Needless to say, my friend passed on it.

Price looks favorable for that year and size unless something's radically wrong with it. Check for leaks, all appliances/genset OK, mechanical inspection of chassis. Suggest RV shop/dealer inspection and pressure test for leaks, plus professional mechanic inspection on chassis. Set price first dependent on test results. Be able to negotiate again (or walk away) if the punch list is more than you can handle. 102,000 miles? Better Driven than Neglected.
  • The rig looks good, the mileage is a little scary. If it has maintenance records it would help. I'd plan to at least double that price to put aside for unexpected fixes.
  • We don't get too much hot weather in Oregon. He's not worried about the black pant right now. It's just more to see if they will like the RV lifestyle and will they use it enough to justify spending the $$ on a newer one that they really like.
  • That black exterior won't be fun traveling south in the summer. One big dutch oven.
