1998 Georgie Boy - House Batteries not engaging

I have a 1998 Georgie Boy. When I disconnect from shore power, the coach is not switching the 12v fuse block over to the house batteries, so while not plugged in, the 12v stuff in the coach is not being powered.

the coach batteries are also not being charged. I've charged them with a battery charger.

Yes, the house battery disconnect is turned on and I've verified with my multi-meter that it's working at the solenoid under the hood.

Questions:

Does the charger/converter connect directly to the 12v fuse block and the battery? or is their seperate wires to both?

Thoughts on where the problem may lie?
  • I just went through this exact problem on my '94 georgie boy pursuit. My inverter/charger was only pushing about 11.8V to the batteries, and when measured with a volt meter right on the charger, measured the same voltage. Also, at times the 12 volt accessories would only work when the generator was running. As soon as you unplugged it or shut down the generator, no 12 volts to anything, period. So I started with replacing the inverter/charger with a new one for about $150 on ebay. That did solve the charging problem, now it charges at over 13 volts. But it would still have the problem of not switching over by itself after being unplugged. The problem was these little circuit breakers under the hood. The main power line coming from the inverter to these 3 circuit breakers had 13 volts, but maybe 9-10 volts coming out the other side, and at times 0 volts. These are manual reset, not automatic like all the new stuff is. So I replaced all 3 breakers with automatic ones. Bingo, the thing works perfect now. All my batteries get charged and all the 12V stuff works properly. The breakers were about $4 each and took about 10 minutes to install. These are automatic, so if they get hot, once they cool off they will reset without doing anything. Hope this helps.
  • In my motor home I have a Xantrex inverter/charger. I have a cable that comes from the positive side of the house batteries to a large fuse. On the other side of the fuse a large cable goes to the inverter/charger to the Positive terminal on the inverter, then the neg side of the inverter a large cable goes to ground. On the same terminal after the fuse that the positive terminal connects to a slightly smaller cable goes to the 12v fuse board where all the little (car) fuses are. yours may be wired the same. I am now also having about the same problem and won't take up space to explain mine. Do what I did, call Tech support at Xantrex and tell him your problem, if you have another brand, call their tech support. He told me that I have a problem with my AC board in the inverter and gave me the number of the nearest authorized repair facility. I called and am sending my unit this morning to them for a over haul. A new unit is $1,200-$1,600, cost to repair mine and refurbishing will be around $450.-$500. it is worth fixing. But call Tech support, don't throw money at something until you know it is the problem. I figured my inverter was the problem after checking and checking but wanted to make sure before I went any further. Feel free to P.M. if you want.
