2000 v10 tranny

I have a 2000 Fleetwood flair 31a with a ford v10, I move the shift lever to D and the trans does not go into gear. also when I move it to pos. 1 and 2. when I go to park it goes into park. I checked the tranny linkage and it goes to all positions properly when moved by hand at the tranny, seems like there is something wrong with the cable. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  • Hi, I m back i finally got the old cable removed. Now i need to find a new one. Ford dealer said they do not stock them any more. Auto parts stores do not have them. The over all length is 105". Any one know where i could get one?

I would disconnect the cable at the transmission and have someone move the shift lever from park to 1st gear to see if the cable moves freely with the proper range of motion at the transmission end, if not move the wire inside the cable that you disconnect from transmission end by hand and see if it moves freely, if it does you know the problem is up at the shift lever. When you move the cable end by hand will it go into Park and the rest of the gears?
  • As I recall they are a few you tube videos about a bolt coming loose and dropping out on the steering column for the sift cable. And I'm sure you can find a video on you tube on how to change the shift cable. Give you- tube a check
  • Mr. Wizard, yes I did the check at the tranny. the cable does not move the tranny lever to all positions. This started last year when I had to jiggle the shift lever to get it to go into drive. Then it got worse as I had to move the lever to 2 and then 1, now it dose not go into any gear. Any help on getting to the cable end at the shift lever. I removed the bottom cover from the steering column but don't know how to remove the top cover. Thanks

2000 pace arrow f 53 I drove 40 miles then the trans started slipping.Has good reverse If it moves in drive it creeps.

Trans replaced Aug 2016, less than 4,000 miles on it.

Can't get to shop until at least Tues. HELP!!!

Did you check the fluid level in the transmission?

You should start a new thread rather than hijack this one. It sounds like the OP is having a different problem than you are experiencing.

  • do you mean,
you watched the linkage at the tranny, while somebody inside the RV,(engine OFF)
    moved the gear selector ?
and you verified the linkage did not move
then get your vin number, chassis and year, and goto ford truck dealer and get the new cable

i would not assume it was the cable , until i verified it
much more likely to actually be a transmission problem
  • Sounds like a problem you may need to have it towed to a transmission repair shop to diagnose and repair.

Hopefully another forum member may be more knowledgeable with the problem and guide you in a do it yourself fix.

Best of luck and safe travels........
