- 2gypsies1Explorer IIII was just going to recommend this RV as a excellent buy. I see now that the ad has a SOLD sign on it. Hope you were the one to buy it!! We love our 2004 Newmar.
- PastorCharlieExplorerAverage mileage for that unit is 11,666 per year. A diesel is only good if it is being driven otherwise it is of no more value than a gasoline sitting in a RV park. What is important for usage when not being driven is the house, utilities and appliances. Newmar makes top line houses but they do not make the appliances and chassis. The appliances are 14 years if they have not been replaced.
For his money he would do better with a later model park model, 5th wheel or gasoline class A. Get newer appliances. - Canadian_RainbiExplorerWe have had a 2002 32' Itasca Horizon for 5 years and have been "half timing" in Mexico, it has about the same mileage, Freightliner Chassis, Allson Trans but the Cummins engine. The Onan 7.k KW is a great generator, but should be run under load (air or heat) for 30 to 60 minuted per month depending on the humidity.
He will also need to put some stabil in the fuel, especially if he doesn't take the rig for a drive or two.
As someone said you may find the fridge a bit small, ours is the Norcold 1201LRIM (double door) and there never seems to be enough room in it. If you are willing to shop every few days he should do fine unless you he has a big family.
He should probably take the rig out for a decent drive every 4 to 6 months, maybe even a few camping weekends.
As someone else mentioned perhaps a 5th wheel might be better for livability without worrying about the CAT siting idle. I'm not a fan of 5ers but that is partially because I don't do stairs well. - wbrowningExplorerThis is for my Daughter and Son in law he has been relocated at his job for 1 year and cannot afford two houses his job site has free rv park he can stay at for a year. And it is in his price range I know Newmars are good units I have a 99 Winnebago Chieftain pusher my next buy I will definitely be looking at Newmars real close. But I have been happy the last 5 years with my Winnebago.
- wbrowningExplorerThanks for the replies going to call today.
- Dale_TravelingExplorer IIFrom 2000 miles away the rig doesn't show it age or miles. I think it would be worth the drive. Appears the prior owns enjoyed the coach considering the updated TV and ice maker. The side radiator is a big plus. Much easier to maintain and service both it and the engine. About the only minor down check is the fridge is a bit small. Side by side or residential would be nice.
- old_guyExplorerlooks very nice to me. I would still go over the service records and do a complete PDI and test drive it. test run the generator also. run the tv with the shore power and the generator.
- RFCN2Explorerwbrowning - Looks like that is a great buy. Dutch Stars are very nice motorhomes in general and by 2002 they added a bunch of higher end features. Take it for a drive and see how that goes.
- I_am_still_waynExplorerNewmar makes a quality coach with the very best components. It shows in the pictures of a 11 year old coach with over 140,000 miles. Having said that, I think the price is about $10,000 too high.
- wbrowningExplorerMy biggest concern is mileage. Ive gotten 300000 on my ford truck with powerstroke diesel. But I would think a 330 cat would be good for 400000 or more.
