2005 GreyHawk Jayco 24 SS 14K miles Pricing

Need help on market value of the Ford 450 gas 2005 GreyHawk 24 SS with 14K actual miles bought new by current owner. The current IL tags expired in 08 so it has been parked mostly for years now. I do not know this class of MH.

The husband is very sick taking some very serious treatments and they asked my son to wash it because someone has expressed interest and plan to see it when in town next week.

I moved it from one side of the house to the other and it is nice for a 9 year old MH. The miles are real I am sure based on the tire tread that look to be OEM Michelin. The cab over contains a TV.

It has a slide out and kitchen in rear. The wife said the fold out bed was fixed to not fold out and they used an air mattress and expects that to be a negative in selling.

Both the batteries need replacing in my view and I would not want to drive far on those cracking tires. It was almost out of gas and we got the generator to spin just fine but not to fire. Son did get top and sides washed and it has been covered during the winter with a blue tarp. I have put 15 gallons of gas so when we put the house battery back in we will see if the generator will fire up.

We will do a detail cleaning on the outside and check it out the best we can but I will not drive it untagged for them. They live near us and is my brother's sister-in-law.

Someone said they would give $14K sight unseen which sounds wild to me. So far two batteries and six tires and a full service is all I know it needs but we have not started checking out the house. It still has plastic strip on the carpet.

Based off of the above what is a average selling price range? She will have no use for it and I told her she should put a serious selling price on it.

Thanks for suggestions. The title is clear she states but I did not ask if IL taxes are current and do not know how they work in that state but I will ask.

Thanks for any ideas. These cases get to me. They had planned to travel after retiring and now this. I do not want to see them get ripped off but had rather see them sell low so that is one more thing of the wife's mine.
  • Thanks. $14K would be more like low wholesale I guess. That may be the reason the party said they'd take as is. While not pressed to sell they no longer have a need for it.
  • I did a quick search finding the Ford 450 gas 2005 GreyHawk 24 SS listing for $30-35,000 Just to give you a ballpark...
  • Rolin I picked up 15 gallons of gas so it just under 1/2 of a tank so we will try the generator when we get a house batter back on it since we know it will spin fine already. We are in KY but they have family in IL so they might do something about tags for them. We got the tires to 65/80 per sticker last night but since it it is not tagged/insured I do not want to be on our state highway since it is not mine but did go from one drive way to the other. Drove and handle like new as expected. Everything looks new like under the hood and inside. Outside looks nice for nine years. We have not got to the point of checking out everything but I am sure it would be a very nice $10K MH :)
  • Hi Gale,
First - You will need about 1/3 tank of fuel before the generator will run. They put the generator gas source about 1/3 up the gas tank so that you can't run the Motorhome out of fuel when running the generator.

Second - I would look on RV Trader
    http://www.rvtrader.com/

to get an idea of what units that year are selling for. Might also be good to go visit some local RV dealers to see what similar units are selling for. However, their units have been detailed and sometimes come with a 30 to 90 warranty so the price will be higher than you could sell that one for.

If they are really serious about selling it, then I would put current tags on it, fill with gas, and make sure that all systems are working. Take it for a drive to make sure that everything works and the tires are properly filled with air. If I were to buy something that had been sitting for 4 or 5 years, without current tags.....I would probably be offering $10K or maybe a little more because there are so many unknowns at that point.

Just my 2 cents worth....for what is worth.

Good point but she said it was person her daughter knows and they were coming down from IL and if they bought it they were going to spend some time at KY Lake before taking it home.

Just looked online and $14K is much lower than those listed in online ads from dealers.
