Blowing out and engine or transmission could happen to either. I happens. For the two models you are looking at first choice would be floor plan then chassis. Either will get you to you're favorite camp ground.
If you want to drill down into the chassis the Workhorse version has the advantage with a bit more horse power, a five speed transmission and maybe 2000 lbs. increase in GVWR over the Ford depending on the chassis version. 22.5 tires are a bonus.
I wouldn't concern myself to much regarding the end of production for the Workhorse. Parts will be available long after the house side of the coach has turned to dust. GM built a lot of Vortec 8.1L engines. Same for Allison with the transmission. Production ended on the Ford 351 Cleveland engine in the early 1980's but it's not hard almost 40 years later to find any item for it.
