2008 chevy express windscreen antenna

I have searched the forums but no luck, neither on the web. Can anyone tell me what the semicircular pattern on the windscreen above the mirror does? If it is an antenna, how do I access it?

I'm considering a Good Sam RVGPS and want to locate it in the mirror area. The mirror is almost useless because of the rear door jambs provide a huge blind spot.

  • Be aware many states in the USA don't allow anything stuck on the front windshield. I guess the mirror area might be OK, but anywhere else "might" be a problem.

Thanks Retraite. They are raised dots that I can feel and a narrow band extends from each side of the semi-circle along the top of the windscreen to the outer edges. I didn't want to destroy an antenna if that is what it is, at the same time it might be the best place to mount an RVGPS holder which may require a smoother surface.

    C'est moi.

    One suggestion.

The suction cups of a GPS, toll transponder, whatever, in my experience won't stick worth a hoot to the "little dots".

Instead, find a "clean" spot on your windshield, clean it well, and apply the suction cup.

You'll still find that either temperature changes or altitude changes will cause the suction cup mounts to fall off your windshield at the most inopportune times, but learn to live with it. Mounting suction cups to the right of the mirror has been, in my experience, a good idea. Startles DW when she's in the passenger seat, but, we've learned that there's rarely any harm done.

    Cheers.

  • In my mind, it could be one of three things.

    1. If your semi-circular pattern is filled with little dots, then it's just "shading" for the area above the mirror and below the top of the windshield. That's fairly common these days. The "dots" have no other purpose, AFAIK, than shading. Usually you can "feel" the dots on the inside of the windshield as, again usually, they're "added" after the windshield is made, but before it's installed.

    2. Your windshield is a replacement windshield and the semi-circular line/pattern is non-standard, just what the windshield replacement folks had in stock. If you bought "new", then you'd know; if "used", then maybe not. Either way, no harm done.

    3. You have a hairline crack. I really hope it isn't the case, but, could be. If so, a replacement is in order.

    Cheers.
  • It does sound like an antenna, but what does that have to do with the GPS?
If you put your GPS where the mirror is the antenna in the windshield will not interfere with it.
    Sorry, am I missing something?
