2014 agile vs ascent

I am looking at both these models. The only differences I see are the agile has solar power,2 agm batteries and a bigger fresh water tank. The agile dealer is a hour away while the ascent dealer is 3 hours. The ascent is 10,000 cheaper than the agile. I am looking for advice and thoughts on these models and any big difference between the manufacturers. Thanks
  • I'm going to buy the Agile (and soon!). With the solar package is the option to add a second bank of coach batteries, giving 440 amps capacity. I also very much like the pull-out table up front. I did some testing and it will work very nicely with my laptop computer.

I could see an advantage to having the shower on the driver's side, but it won't bother me much (if at all).

Another factor was that the RT dealer is close by and the PW dealer is about 4 hours. The PW dealer didn't have an Ascent to look at (nor did they have any older Ascents any time we checked, so we had to drive much further to just to see one.

Personal opinion from a 2 time class B owner is you should go for the Ascent.
The floorplan on the RT is backwards in that when you are standing at the kitchen counter, you are staring at your neighbor's RV rather than your campsite.
Look where the refrigerator is in the SS. It's on the floor, where on the PW it's at eye level. Think about all the bending over to get in there on the RT.
Another thought I have is ever since RT changed owners during the economic downturn, their quality seems to have suffered. We know 4 folks that have bought RT's since 2011, and they make regular trips back to the shop for lengthy visits for repairs, all 4 of them. (one of those had to go back to the factory)
Our first class B was a PW Lexor, and during the time we owned it, we had one small wood trim repair which was taken care of immediately. They are family owned, and have been all along.
Whichever one you get, go for the new 4cyl/7 speed transmission combo. Much better fuel mileage, plenty of power

    + 1-- well stated Bobojay
  • The ten grand difference can pay for a decent solar install. I'd look at the SS Agile, and check if there is anything it has over the Ascent that is worth that much. Since you will be dealing with the floorplan layout on a day to day basis, that is the most important thing. The nicest thing about the SS Agile, to me, was the pull out drawer sink, which gave a tad bit more room in the bathroom, although I read people complaining about it leaking.

I would also lean towards the Ascent, unless I wanted a PW specific feature like the "engine generator", or some E-trek options.
  • Agree with Bobjay, the floor plan is better on the PW.

Welcome to the forum, by the way. Good group for B info here.

  • The biggest difference is that the bathroom is on opposite sides. The Agile has a much more open front living area because of this. The Ascent probably is easier to drive because you can see out all the passenger side windows.

I bet if you sat inside each one it would be pretty easy to decide which design was the best for you. Personally I would probably buy the one that gave me the most open and least claustrophobic feel.
