2014 Fleetwood Discovery 40X

I am currently looking at a 2014 Discovery 40X. I have worked a price that is 37% off the MSRP and feel like it is a great deal. Can you give your Pros and Cons on the Fleetwood brand I do not have much experience with Fleetwood motorhomes
  • We have a 2010 Discovery 40G. I agree with Et2.. The rig is not one of Fleetwood's better products. We have a number of issues with the quality of the coach. the latest is fiberglass is cracking. Out of warranty and Fleetwood is no help.
  • We have an '07 40X WITH 50K miles. We live in it about 7 months out of the year, we have replaced one of the leveling jacks in all those miles, that is including a 4 month trip to Alaska. I pray our next 40X is as reliable as this one.
  • When I retired from the USAF, I wanted to do something different than working on aircraft, so I worked on motorhomes for almost 10 years. During that time, I saw some for warranty work. But, we sold more Fleetwood motorhomes than all the rest combined, so all in all, everybody was pleased with their purchase.

I have owned a 40' Fleetwood toyhauler, and I was pleased until the day I sold it. I just bought a 33R Fleetwood Flair. I know I'm not directly answering about a Discovery, but Fleetwood in general, and I'm pleased with what I've worked on, and what I've personally owned.

As long as the drive train is in good shape, you'll have thousands of miles of pleasure and memories with your coach. Go make some memories now!!!
  • My Excursion has been a keeper and solid performer, especially the chassis, as was my previous Pace Arrow!
  • Our same 2013 model is a year old. First MH for us. Your discount is good, don't complain about that. Keep in mind it's certainly not the top of the line. We like ours a lot! Yes there were some small issues needing worked out, but in most RV's there are. Everything is fine now.

What sticks out the most to us is the bed sofa and expandable sectional. The expandable section and knife couch aren't that comfortable ... IMO of course. I've actually started wondering if I could replace them with something nicer. Also a little more room in the shower would be nice. We love the floor plan. I know if you get the king bed there is hardly room to walk around it, so we settled for the queen.

One thing we did three weeks ago was replace the original Sachs shocks with Koni. It has made a huge difference in how the MH rides. Less side to side sway and much less jarring on the bumps. The old shocks allowed the rig to sorta float around when going over dips in the road. It doesn't do this anymore. There were only 2600 miles on ours when we did this, it was worth the $800 some dollars. Maybe talk your dealer into upgrading your shocks in the deal.

Check your alignment when you get it, and weigh the coach and set your tire pressures according to the tire manufactures weight chart. Ours were way over inflated when we got ours.

Great MH for the money. Ours was around $163,000 with the discount. Listed for $240,000. So about 32% off MSRP.

Opps ... We have the Expedition, sorry, just noticed my error. Same coach for the most part.
  • I'm setting in my 40x right now, in Seattle, on a 6mo trip from Phoenix to Jasper, Canada. Last year 6-7 MO trip Phoenix to Seattle to Nova Scotia. Year before 6+mo made it down to Key West. Then there were short trips in between.
    Satisfied Customer.
  • I have the 2005 39S and think it's a very good unit. Haven't been in anything newer than a 2006. Have been in a couple older than 2005 and they seem to be holding up well.
