Do you really save a large amount by being under 10K? I sure wouldn't give up my spare and batteries for that and don't see what the big deal is about carrying chains?

My sisters back in Washington State have told me chains must be in the vehicle between Oct. and April UNLESS you stay off the passes. And they meant any and all vehicles. I wouldn't be caught in those mountains without chains.

Seriously, did not realize you were required to carry snow chains...but, makes sense.

That weight does not include you or anything else you put into it.

It's not going to happen, unless you meant the Gross Weight was 10,380 lbs. What was the dry weigh (delivered)? At any rate the state will use the labeled weight.

Yes, that was gross weight when I weight it. But above porter was kind enough to point out that my state goes by "Gross Weight Vehicle Rating" so doesn't matter how much under I get under 10,000. They go by GWVR, which is little over 15,000 I believe.
I drove truck in this state for 27 years and the only thing I was concerned about was under 80,000 gross and not over 12,500 on front steer and not over 34,500 on driver tires. So found out mute point on getting under 10,000 on RV. So I guess I'm struck with carrying chain around like it or not (to be legal).

Yep...first sentence Chain law based on GVWR not actual real weight. Well that ends getting RV under 10,000 actual weight.

I guess state doesn't take into account putting RV on diet:B

The rig's GVWR should be stamped on the ID plate inside the door- since that's what the regs call for it seems to me that's what a Stater would look at if there's a question.
