2015 Itasca Navion Battery Problems

Hi,

Have you check to make sure the converter is sending power to the battery bank?

Are you talking about the TRUCK START BATTERY which is referred to as the "CHASSIS" Battery or the TRUCK "COACH" BATTERY that runs your RV section ceiling lights and other 12VDC items.

I would think the the truck "START" Battery usually only gets charged when you are running your truck engine.

The "COACH" trailer Battery usually gets re-charged when you are plugged into SHORE POWER from the on-board CONVERTER/CHARGER unit.

I am not all that familiar with all the 12V BYPASS switches the motorhomes have but perhaps one may have the start battery switched in to aid the living quarters of the RV...

In my RV TRAILER setup I like to measure the COACH battery bank with a multimeter or panel meter just sitting there and if it is fully charged it will read 12.6-7VDC. When I plug my trailer into shore power then I see this DC VOLTAGE jump up to 13.6VDC telling me the Converter/charger unit is working to keep it charged up.

If the truck "START" battery is discharging just sitting there then something else must be turned "ON" on the truck side to do this.

It is normal for the chassis battery to discharge when setting, although 5 days seems short. There is a battery disconnect to the right of your gas pedal. The converter does not charge the chassis battery. A lot of us gave added a Trik-L-Start to keep it charged when connected to shore power. Search posts on the view-navion yahoo groups here for more information.\

Winnebago only has the converter/charger charge the chassis battery on their Class A RV's. They do it by installing a Trik-L-Start. After ruining my chassis battery on my Winnebago by running it down a few times, I installed my own Trik-L-Start. That was 4 or 5 years ago. I have had no problems since. Highly recommended addition.

Find the relay that connects the two battery banks together when you press the AUX START button. The Trik-L-Start has 3 wires. Put one wire on one side of the relay. Put the other wire on the other side of the relay. Connect the third wire to vehicle ground, and you are done. Your chassis battery will never go down again.

If you have access to a DC clamp-on ammeter, measure the current being drawn from the battery when everything is off. The chassis battery should last much longer than 5 days.

For storage I have a trickle charger on my chassis battery.

Could just be a bad cell in the battery.

I put my money on a defective power converter. Had one die in my previous Winnebago Aspect and the coach battery died after several hours. With the new converter, no problems. Check the 30amp fuse in the box to see if power converter tripped the fuse. That could mean a seized fan or other fault.

If it is the chassis battery as the OP said, the converter is not involved.

But who knows???

On our 06 Winne, the chassis battery would also die after a few days. The biggest draw on the chassis battery (when parked and not driven) was using the keyless remote fob to unlock the coach door and leaving the door step to open and close with the door. Both operate off the chassis battery.
The remote locking/unlocking does not take much power, but it would turn the cab lights on for a period of time.
The trik-l-start or similar device solved our problem.

We have an '03 Itasca. When we are parked and plugged in to 120v I block on, with anything that will do the job, that over ride switch that you need to hold on. Then the engine battery will be kept charged.
