You should not have been charged. That is all covered by Cummins with the 5 yr government required (because you'll need it) emission warranty.
Mine was 1st in for DEF nozzle clog, then EGR, then ?, then complete ECM, then EGR issues again, then 2 times for complete new wire harness. All that in 20K miles and about 5K with check engine on. After the 1st ECM update I lost 1 MPG and noticeable power. But per numerous checks they said everything was OK.
These new emission motors are junk. I was heading toward removal of all the emissions junk but that is expensive also. Sold it before the warranty ran out. 2012 Cummins 350 8.2L.
