What are the names of the standard (if there is such a thing) slide mechanisms on coaches? If the others have a "shwintek slide mechanism" what's the name of the one Newmar uses? I'd like to find out more about them. The slides are important and I've read some real horrors about them. If there is one better than the others I'd sure like to know about them! The NewMar 3610 also come on a 26,000 Lb. chassis, most in class are 22,000 and 24,000.
Newmar's slide mechanisms are proprietary. (they make their own). The upside is that it's a robust system. Downside (aside from what you mentioned about space) is that it would require Newmar to warranty it vs any shop working on a Shwintek. I don't think they are fail-proof either. I've seen posts of Newmar slide failures. Rare and certainly less common than shwintek failures. Shwinteks are ok on smaller slides, but I would avoid one in a full wall.
As with all things mechanical, Newmar slides do fail. But, you do NOT have to go to a Newmar dealer, for warranty if you get Newmar's approval for another service center. But, from my experience, if you want a Newmar slide fixed right, go to a Service Center( or Dealer) that has Newmar trained Techs to fix them. That will save you time and money. Doug
