Let's see-- 3 of my 4 slides on my Newmar have failed since I purchased it in 2013. Our prior coach had 13 years on it with only 1 slide issue. The Newmar slide mechanism (prior to HWH) are archaic. Look at the Newmar forum and you'll see the number if issues ranging from loose bolts to stripped gears and broken chains
If you wouldn't mind please share exactly what has failed on three of your four slides. Thanks - hankoExplorerTalked to a Newmar dealer today, the HWI Slides are on the Dutch Star on up. The Ventanas still use what he referred to as the old tried and true rack and pinion system

I like Bruce have had very good luck with HWH slides.
I think I may not have written my response as clearly as I should have. We have never owned HWH slides, ours have all been homegrown Newmar slides. Those are the ones I was referring to in my "large gearbox manufacturer" post.
Having said that, HWH does have a great reputation for their slide design and I wouldn't shy away from them at all. - hankoExplorerI hear they are the best. Might make the difference when I buy a new coach comming up next year hopefully, thanks for the feedback
- J-RoosterExplorerI like Bruce have had very good luck with HWH slides.
- 2gypsies1Explorer IIIWe used the slides on our Newmar for 8 years of full-timing - using them constantly with absolutely no problems.

Ok, so No Swinteck, or cable system?
Nope.
Other than the new HWH on the fully tiled slides it's all theirs. Our '08 has the same mechanical design as our '03 did and our '00 did.
My real job is industrial sales. We recently had training with a very big name in the gearbox world. It was unofficially revealed in the training that they were one of Newmars supply partners for some of the slide mechanicals. Being a Newmar owner, and knowing what I know about both companies involved, this did reaffirm my confidence in the system. - hankoExplorerOk, so No Swinteck, or cable system?

For the most part Newmar uses their own design, which is made of sturdy stuff. However, I think on some of the FWS diesels starting in 2016 they started using some HWH products.
This is correct.
Newmar was the first MH builder to mass produce slides, and they still use basically the original design today. Simple, easy, and very reliable. It works well.
However...with the new 100% tiled full flat floor Newmar partnered with HWH to build a really nice design.
