26' Gasser Fuel Mileage?

Please don't beat me too badly - I've spent a fair amount of time searching this forum and realize this overall topic has been whipped but I have not found anything specific to 26' gassers.
We are contemplating selling our Class C and purchasing a used 26 foot class A gasser (Vista, Sunstar, etc). We presently tow a Chev Tracker and are getting MPG in the low teen's. I know our MPG may likely decrease but I'm unable to spot any information from owners of the 26 foot units.
Can anyone help me out?

Neal
  • We're getting anywhere from 8 to 11 mpg depending on terrain and wind. That is while towing the Jeep. Living where we do, we are ALWAYS in the mountains sometime or another. And much of our level driving is at 4500 feet above sea level or higher.

So, if we were in low elevation flat lands I would expect our mileage to go up a bit.
  • Is this all the 26 foot gassers there are on this forum?
We are "drivers", not "parkers" and average 20,000 miles a year which is why the mpg is something we will pay attention to.

I just figured up the MPG on my new gasser and it came out to about 4.6MPG, pulling the toad and running the genny for much of that time.

I'm thinking once you get the engine broke in you should get a little better. But, you are making it all up in the Honda! :D

    Safe travels,

A lot of that driving was in heavy traffic on the DC beltway, which certainly pulled the average down. I'm waiting to do my 7/4 trip to get a better handle on what the actual mileage should be like. I've planned my driving times around low (DC low, I mean) traffic so I shouldn't have much in the way of start/stop issues to deal with.

I'm going away this weekend, but since I'll be driving up the side of a mountain to get to Big Meadows on the Skyline, I figured that wouldn't be a good representation... :D

  • After 15000 miles in the past 4 years, I have had as good as 11 mpg and as bad as 7 mpg. I can average 10 most of the time if I keep it 55 or under on the flats. All bets are off on the hills or if you are fighting head winds.
