I had the same problems with my 454 in my 84 Winnie. We never used the dash air anyway (always genny and roof A/C) so I just removed the dash air rad in front of the engine rad. Then used power washer to clean the rad. Flushed the rad and added new fluids. Then installed 2 electric fans in front of the rad. I put a switch on the dash. When I climbed a hill or sat indead traffic I would flip the switch and 2 big electric fans would kick in. Solved my problem. I would also run those fans when I shut the engine down to blow the heat out of the compartment and help cool down the engine. I am considering adding the same fans to our new coach just for added cooling.
