I have not updated my research lately but having looked at this one. Yes. I'll second that.

HW in the model number means it is hard wired. so you never forget it.
It also means it is outta sight outta mind when Mr. Sticky Fingers walks past so it does not "Grow legs" and walk off.

In the old days I'd have recommended the HW-50C but this appears to be an update to that same produce.. Same level of protection.

Yep, good unit. Our's is on it's 4th rig. Does the same thing as a hard wired ... But easily portable to future rigs. Takes a licking and keeps on ticking. And it's found faulty campground wiring.

Installed a Progressive Industries EMS-LCHW50 hardwired unit in 2006. Saved me several times. Earlier this summer got connected to a bad power supply and it protected my motor home but burned out the protector. Corrected the power pole and bypassed the unit after reassuring every thing was ok. Called Progressive Industries and told them it was my fault that it was miss wired, they said under warranty we will send you a new no charge. mind you it was 12 years old, can't beat service like that. we were on the road and when we got home 3 days later a new one was sitting on my porch. I also like the remote where I can monitor voltage and amperage inside.
Did I say warranteed for life, other manufactorers don't offer this.

I will second that. There are many "Surge Protectors" that are nothing mroe than spike supressors.. GOOD as far as they go but no over/under voltage/frequency protection. THe ones cited above all provide "Broad Spectrum" (Medical term) Protection.

A hughes Autoformer provides limited LOW VOLTAGE protection and spike spuression (MOV's) only it does not protect you from open neutral or 240 volt 30 amp outlets like the Unitrs above do.

I have had the EMC-PT50C in service ever since I started full timing in 2010. After the first time the campground I was in had some major electrical issues and campers around me had burned up "stuff" and I was 100% OK, I got a bit paranoid about electrical issues. So what did I do? I bought a second PT50C as a spare. When the primary one fails I never have to plug in without one while I'm sending the failed one back for service. In the past 8+ years I have had many saves (two on my home base site) and actually had 2 of the PT50C's destroyed beyond repair and they were both replaced by PT50X's one of which I am using right now and I still have a brand new one still in the box in reserve.

I will absolutely never plug in anywhere without my PT50X inline.

Where is the list of anomalies that are a concern? So many different devices address a long list of unrelated items - all called a surge.

For example, a blackout is hyped as a surge. Do you need protection from that? Low voltage is a surge. Is that a concern? Reverse polarity - a surge.

The thing hyped as a surge to homeowners is typically completely different from what concerns most at a campground.

So greater concerns are reverse polarity, disconnecting from a voltage so low as to be harmful to motorized appliances, disconnecting from a high voltage (ie floating neutral), and disconnecting if the safety ground does not exist.

Whereas homes are more concerned with surges such as lightning, then many campground protectors do not address that surge. Home also do not worry about low voltage. Another anomaly not addressed by a protector for homes that is a concern in campgrounds.

Long before asking for a solution, first identify the solution. The Progressive products are popular, in part, because those protectors are good at addressing type of surges more commonly found in campgrounds.

One anomaly that protectors cannot detect is an open earth ground at the pole.

Progressive Industries EMS-LCHW50 hardwired. it is on the bottom page, with the remote display no need to go out in the weather.

Interesting only two NO entries are weather proof and lockable, nether matter for a hardwired unit.
