'88 Southwind carburator not getting fuel

Could be fuel filter, Fuel pump fuse.

I had a 87 fw pace arrow with the 454 chev in it. It had a manual pump on the engine block and a electric pump in the tank. I also had filter in the fuel line in the carb and a can type(small) in the line near back of the steps up near frame rail. Also asmall holly fuel pressure regulator in rear wheel well on the line from tank. Have to test for press at different locations. Lines rust since there mostly steel and trap in filters. When mine failed , I changed all rubber from tank foward and both filters and both pumps. Elect actualy failed.

Sounds like varnish build up in the fuel line, I would start with the fuel filter that would be located in the frame rail ( if it's a P-30 ) passengers side.

Where is the fuse for the fuel pump? And is the older P30 chassis manual online? I have the 1995 version but that covers fuel injection, not much carb info.

See if there's voltage at the electric fuel pump near the tank. If not, check for a pump relay or solenoid besides looking for a fuse.
Then take the output line loose and see if it pumps fuel with the key on. Should be a filter back there too and there might be a junction point for the genset feed as well.
Might find a chassis manual on amazon or ebay.

You can get a copy of the original factory P chassis manual from Bishko Books. Very helpful but not cheap. There were a lot of variations in the actual builds, however, so any project like yours is going to involve some detective work. A wire tracer/tone generator really helps when you are tracking down fused circuits. Good luck with your repairs.

Had 83 Southwind that had a relay under engine cover in the left rear. Had a red button that would pop on occasion. Usually happened after chassis battery had been disconnected for storage and then reconnected. Just a possibility....

We had an '82 southwind that always had problems getting fuel from the rear tank to the engine, expecially climbing large grades. Ours had a 30 gallon up front that always worked perfect, and a 70 gallon in the rear that almost always had issues. We added a secondary electric fuel pump near the rear tank on the frame rail to help push fuel to the carburetor. Even then it still had problems getting fuel, that thing was thirsty.

With mine I had the electric fuel pump switch go bad. It is located on the oil pressure line. Once the oil pressure develops it turns on the pump and away you go. That being said I drove from Kansas back to Michigan just on the mechanical pump. The hills were a little iffy but it still got us home.

Took another look today. Removed the fill pipe to the tank and checked with a flashlight. Got at least half a tank of gas so the the gauge is good. I can see the sending unit but no pump in the tank as far as I can tell. Went up to the engine to remove the pump on the block. Started to remove the metal line and fuel started to drip out so I guess it's getting fuel to the pump but the pump isn't strong enough to push gas up to the carb. If I remove the line, will I dump 40 gallons on the ground? Guess I could pinch off the rubber hose first. Anyway, ordered a new pump from RockAuto and will post an update.
