97 Georgie Boy Cruise Master just purchased it,,,

Hi, we just purchased a 97 Georgie Boy with 47,000 miles on it. The leveling system doesnt work, the owner said you have to remove the electronic portion and send it to the original company. We are thinking maybe someone who has electronic knowledge could possibly figure out what the problem is.
On a side note, would like to know if anyone else on the forum has
a 90's Georgie Boy Cruise Master, could they offer tips on the rig?
This is all new to us and we plan on taking it on long trips once we are retired in a few years. Is this a good unit? What kind of maintenance suggestions do you have? It is a 37' with one lv.rm. slide out. Looks to be in good shape all around.
Thanks!

  • Thanks for all the info everyone. The motor is a Ford 460 with turbo boost. It seems to be a cold start, and lots of exhaust when starting up. The person we bought it from said it is a cold starter and he meant it. I'd like to have someone go over it with a fine tooth comb before any long trips in it.
It has the fridge that needs recall work, so we'll have to find someone to do that. And as far as the levellers, thanks for the advice, we'll be looking through the fuses and such. Our son has background in electronics, but hes been gone on a work related road trip so we're waiting on him.
Have a short trip planned for the GB towards the end of July to a local state campground.
    Thanks again!

A little late to be asking this.

I understand, this question,,, Are you really worried about how good you did after the fact??? I do that myself.
  • Nothing wrong with a GBM, not in my book.
We had an 89 Encounter before the HR we have now & only thing bad about it was the carbed 460 engine. Make a trip, work on the engine.
There were things on the Encounter, I wish we had on our HR, like built in vaccume system & most of all 50 amp service, "WHERE BOTH 13,500 A/C COULD BE RAN AT ONCE" in the summer time when its "REALLY" needed.
Kills me, companys build an RV cost as much as they do & then put 30 amp service in them.
Ol GBM had a 6500 watt Onan genset in it & you talk about power, we could park, run everything in the M/H, both A/C units & connect everything in the enclosed trailer, lights/compressor & it never staggered.
Lord help this 5500 we have now in the HR, been nothing but problems.
Looks like the MFGs, would wise up after a while & start installing Honda gensets in them & end a bunch of headakes for us RV owners, but then again, that world remove the engineered & built in failure of a part ordeal we have to put up with to keep us buying something.

  • I have a '96 Cruise Master on a Ford frame. GBM was an entry level coach line, but very well made prior to the purchase by Coachman (late 90's.) Cruise Master was the second from the top in the GBM line with only the Cruise Air being of higher quality.

We snowbird with our Cruise Master six months out of the year. It has served us well and has taken us to many places trouble free. If you keep reading this forum enough you will think you should have bought a newer/different rig. Trust me, your rig can do anything that is asked of it. Those that slam it mostly have hangar queens or just use their rigs for short drive weekends. Don't be afraid to use your Cruise Master based on what you read here, just get out there and make Kodak moments.

As far as your other questions, the front rubber roof to end cap connection seems to be a weak design. Make sure that is sealed well. I have HWH jacks on my Cruise Master. First thing I would check is the fuses to the control box. I would then put a meter on the motor to see if power is being delivered to it when requested. Shouldn't be that hard to pinpoint the trouble area.
  • We have a '96 Cruise Master GB it has Big Foot levelers Big Foot is in White Pigeon MI and they are very good to work with. They are also called Quadra.
We bought our unit brand new in April of '96. We still have it and it has been coast to coast and we love it. It has been a very good unit for us. Happy traveling.

  • You will get more responses if we know the make of the leveling system. also the make and model of the running gear. IE Cummins engine, cat diesel or gas, Ford , Chevy, etc.
