Yes, there is a starter solenoid. Location should be in the dog house on right side.
Make that "the left side" for 88-98 460 F53 starter relays.
The solenoid is on the starter.
Richard - Many Fords do have two solenoids. One on firewall area and one Bendix style mounted on the starter.
- ernie1ExplorerMy 1989 Ford e350 had two solenoids and the one that went bad on mine was on the front cowl right next to the battery. I understand there is one close to the starter motor also. You can test them by jumping across the two smaller wires or across the two large wires with a jumper cable.Sometimes hammering them with the handle of a large screwdriver will get them to work.
- Yankee_ClipperExplorerTo amplify, that solenoid is an easy fix (two wires, two retention bolts).
For safety, I'd check the physical connections (battery wires especially) and ensure no grounds to the starter. Rodents love to chew on wire insulation, bless their buggered souls. - Yes, there is a starter solenoid. Location should be in the dog house on right side.
