A matter of choice

I started out in the late 90's thinking about RVing, my choice was a 5th. wheel for less than $20,000.00 but ended up in 2001 with a 35 ft. class A for much more but have never regretted my choice. Am now about to go into the 3rd. class A and still don't regret it. Every time my wife goes back to the bathroom or says "shall I get you a cup of coffee or a cookie and I don't have to find a place to pull over I think , This is nice, and when I stop for the night and sit behind the wheel and push a few buttons to level and put out the slides, again I think this is nice. When I back into a parking space without twisting the wheel in different directions I think "THIS IS GREAT" glad I made the choice for a class A.

If your thing is to sit in the same place for long periods of time and can back one of the confounded things then your piece of cake is a 5th. wheel. Everyone to their own taste, that's what the old woman said when she kissed the cow.:W

    Our Choice FWs

    We TRAVELED FT for 7yrs

    Three reasons for FW
    1) I can walk from one end to other end and not have to dodge or stoop
    2) I do NOT fold up/be comfortable in small toads
    3) I did not want my 'home' to have to be in the shop due to engine/tranny/drive train issues therefore NO MHs

This whole absurd idea that FWs are only for long term stays always makes me laugh.
I pull in/back in and within 15-20 minutes WE are sitting under the awning enjoying a cold beverage.

Many of us are not 7 ft. tall so space isn't a problem and I'm glad you have found a truck that never has mechanical problems. I'll just sound my air horn at you the next time I see you sitting along the freeway where you are pulled off so your wife can go back to the 5th.wheel to answer the call of nature or get you a cup of coffee.:B

And to thing some folks FT in TCs, on motorcycles with small TTs, cars./tents etc
    Ain't it GREAT! :B
  • What breed of cow did she kiss? Seriously, the “challenges” of TTs are part of my enjoyment, and you don’t need a truck. My Tahoe is a fine TV for my size TT that can enter most backwoods USFS CGs easily, light duty off roader and a daily driver. Everything “automatic” and/or spending lots of time at private RV “parks” (pave over paradise) would bore me.

  • Yeah, when we started looking it was a rule of thumb. Sitting = trailer, traveling = motorhome. Our decision was made easier by budget considerations. Buying a motorized unit would be cheaper than buying trailer and a truck to pull it.

We didn't tow anything on or first Big Adventure and I questioned the decision after looking at the car rental costs but not we have something we can tow so that point is moot as well.
