11 years ago, we were at a similar point but retired. I spent about 6 months reading this and other forums for a basic education. Then I emailed a recommended sales person at Lazy Days in Florida (one of the largest RV dealers) and proposed a visit under the following rules.
I said I was a serious looker but not a serious buyer. I wanted an education. If I received any sales pressure I was leaving.
A few weeks later we flew from Virginia to Tampa and spent two days at LD. I repeated my rules and our sales person (Jim Kreighbaum) and he agreed and said his only goal was to convince us that when we purchased we return to LD. My wife and I looked at dozens of RV's used and new and by the second day selected a new DP. This is our 11th season and it has 122k miles after visited 49 states and all Canadian provinces. Learn, compare, negotiate and enjoy.
