If You want to buy a Diesel Pusher, Do So, there is no reason to start at the bottom and work and pay,Your way up!
We have had everything from a Pup Tent to Our present Rig, including Van Conversions ,Tent Trailers, Fifth Wheel Toy Hauler and Gas powered Motorhomes.
If I had it to do over again ,and could afford it ,I would have started with a Prevost or M.C.I. Bus and built My Own!
We didn't have the opportunity to do that and now it is Too Late in life to bother.
That said Our Older (1998) Newmar Dutch Star meets Our Requirements quite nicely. It runs well and has been properly maintained . Maintenance is the Key as far as the Chassis is concerned.
As far as the Floor plan ,yes, choose one with the features that You and Your better half both agree on. Generally DP's have better Quality Cabinets and Furniture than the Gas Models and what isn't great or breaks can be replaced or upgraded down the line!
Buy what You can afford ,and what You can afford to enjoy!
Deal with issues as they come up and above All Have a Great Retirement.
