We've owned travel trailers - fivers and truck - and now our MH. We are in our 50's. The climbing around the truck to hook it up on the fiver was the turning point for us. I wasn't getting older and it was getting harder to do. Besides the dually was just sitting in the driveway unless traveling as the wife stopped driving it. So unless you have a second vehicle to drive you might want to consider it could be cumbersome as a daily driver and harder to park, etc.
I thought we'd never own a MH, but are extremely happy we do. It seems like the normal progression for a lot of people. It's way easier to connect the toad ( at ground level) and you have a vehicle that can be your daily driver, or one you don't mind compared to a truck.
People will tell you the DP MH cost more to maintain. We haven't found that to be true. The tires will cost more when needing replacement, oil changes are comparable to a diesel PU, our insurance is less than the dually - fiver combo combined. Some will also say a fiver has more room. Our MH has more room than any of our fivers had and way more storage. Our last fiver was 40' long with 3 slides. Our MH is 42' with three slides. Two oppose each other. When opened the living area is very spacious.
If your going to experiment my suggestion would be buy used. That way if you don't like what you have, you can sell it for what you paid for it. Buying new is going to bite you with depreciation.
For us, I wish we did the DP MH many years ago.
