If I understand what you said properly, the steps no longer retract when the ignition is on.
On many Winnebago models the wire that comes from the run terminal of the ignition switch and connects to the step controller to tell the steps to retract when the switch is on, is also connected to several other points.
On mine it also provides power for the backup monitor, rear Motor Aid fan and activates the solenoid that connects the alternator output to the house batteries when the engine is running.
They labeled the fuse that is in that line as "Step Alarm".
