If it is the one from the two units, just run it inside your duct. if from the unit to the thermostat then use a pull pole. See if one of your friends might pull wire has one. Make sure to seal ducts where you put the two holes good. Better to replace it than trying to splice it. You can use Cat 5e cable if you have. Not as bad of getting ate threw. Just pick four wires out of the 8.
