Acceleration 0 to 60 in 30 Seconds

0 to 60 in 30 Seconds

I timed my acceleration getting on the freeway the other day.

Flat ground and no wind.

2004 Worhorse 8.1 with Allison transmission.

I'm about 25,800 lb with the toad.

Anybody else ever time their takeoff time?

  • Have to say the humor on these forum pages surely does provide for massive humor, like the Revcon wannabee etc. Been a gear head my entire adult life, like my nane sez, mci7, that is for the bus foljs who ubderstand mci bus.
    Many engines
, transmissions and rear gear ratios. Hp up in the 800 range for 2weeks, then back to the 600 hp area.
So is easy to identify the BS stuff.
    Keep up the humor.
Oh, the mci7 @ 800 hp is truly a wheel spinner.
big difference, many bus nuts know & have ridden in my hot rod mci7.
Stepping down to the Foretravel @ 500 hp is a little winpy but does fine for family travel
, besides am gettibg too old for such play.

Why? As long as I get there I am cool with that.
Because it creates a base line to measure by, in case you think something is wrong later on, or if you add performance modifications. Same reason for checking mileage periodically.

Whenever I make a eng mod I test my 40-60 mph times to see what the impact was. I have a 1996 GBM with a 454 TBI that weighs about 15,500 lbs Stock when I got it was 22 secs. General tuneup brought it down to 19 secs. Headers, FF muffler, and a CAI brought it down to 14 secs. Advancing the timing from 4 degrees BTC to 9 degrees brought it down to 12 secs. Stock HP was 230 at 1800 rpms not sure what it is now maybe 300 hp.

My ISM500 in the 31,000 lb 36' Foretravel does the 0-60 in 18 seconds. Love the way it lifts the front on take off and when up shifts. It is just a matter of HP & Torque vs weight. No magic.

OK, that is impressive. I'm only around 16 seconds, but I am limited by wheel spin below 25 mph.
  • I used to have Dave's rig without a slide. I was really fast. Now I am a bit longer so it takes a few seconds more.
