Adding a rod holder to the basement

I keep mine in a 4" round cardboard tube with plastic end caps. I wrap them in an old face towel so they don't rattle around in there.

I installed rod holders in my pass thru with 1/2 in screws. Then as Elias said it was a pain to get them in an out. I tried U shaped holders and the line would get caught on the furthest holder. I now use PVC tubing and leave the reels on and break the rods in two or in the case of my fly rods three pieces then insert them into the 2 in dia PVC tubes with an end cap. I leave the line swivel and sometimes lure on and it won't tangle. My two fly rods have flies on them now. I slide them along side my water tank until I need them. One is in a card board tube from wrapping paper because I ran out of PVC.

I had not seen stickjackets before. and the fence post idea in combination with stickjackets might work. I have been apprehensive about my idea to put them in rod holders in the basement because I would like them to be easy to put in/take out. The drivers side is closer and easier to reach. The riders side is not really in reach without getting into the basement. On the drivers side though, the slide mechanism is there limiting the available area to put them.

Why not get a 5 or 6 inch plastic fence post and slide the rods in to that. Put end caps on it and all is well

On my last motorhome I mounted a rod holder in the basement. Honestly, it was a real pain getting the rods in and out. Each end had to be pushed into the holder while I had to squeeze into the basement to do it.

On my new motorhome, I could find nowhere to mount holders, so after some research, I found these.

Stickjacket

I put these on our 6 rods and can lay them in a small compartment on the floor. They work really well and solved my rod storage problem.

They may not be what you're looking for but it's an alternative for you.

Unfortunately, there were no screws to remove a panel. It is a molded "U" shape. Looks like there are some bolts that might allow me to remove the whole thing, but I am not sure that view is worth the climb. Looks like the first suggestion will work fine, though.

You are exactly right. It is a chase. It contains wiring, hydraulic lines, heater hoses, etc. Look a little closer and you will see screws holding the bottom of the chase in place. In the compartment where you are wanting to do your job, Drop that cover down and this will give you access to the interior of that area and then you can see where you might be able to drill and where you might not be able to drill.

Most likely you have a bunch of wiring running through there. If you use screws, make em very small ones. I mounted my poles on the side of the pass thru compartment using these holders....Dennis

Interesting idea! It would also serve the purpose of getting them away from the side of the chase so they are not getting beat up. Thanks.
