Advice on a Class C for sale.

I am looking at a 2000 Jayco Designer 31' with 27k miles, new rubber roof and newer tires. Triton V10 engine. The unit is selling for $10,900 through private party. I have only looked at it from the outside. It's faded, but looks in average shape for that year. I plan to look at it in the next few days and take it for a drive. Does this seem like a decent deal on a decent RV? This is our first Class C, so it's new territory for me. I wouldn't have looked at one this old, but our budget likes the cost. We are looking at making a long trip this summer from Indiana to Utah, so I want to make sure it's up for the trip.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
  • 27K miles? Sounds like a steal to me. I just traded in a 2001 class c with 135k miles and got more than that on trade. If it's comfortable, clean and you like it, get a professional to check it out (especially the engine) and consider yourself lucky! It's an entry point, not too many people start at the top (thinking back, way back, to my crank up Alaskan camper with the icebox and no running water).
  • Triton V10s got a lot better in 04. The early ones had spark plug head issues but was still a good motor.
The roof worries me a bit. Why and were there leaks. Class Cs are known for cab over leaks.

If you just started shopping, keep on shopping.
  • Seems awfully high to me for a 15 year MH. Biggest concern especially a class c is water leaks. C's also seen prone to a high failure rate of the overhead area. Check it very very carefully. Wood rot can be expensive
