Age restrictions

Looking to purchase a used class A diesal. I understand some RV parks won't allow motor homes over a certain age. Does anyone know at what age most quit allowing you in to park?

  • In 50+ years of camping and RVing, including 13 as full timers, we have only seen 2 parks that had the rule and enforced it. I personally would not let that be a deciding factor.
  • One of our chapters had a wonderful experience that way.
A 30+ coach rally had been planned at a park that was doing some serious marketing.

The wagonmaster was going by there and though to stop in on his way. When he got to the desk, they asked the age of the coach and he answered honestly that it was 35. Then they jumped up with the 10 year rule. He remarked that they had sent him mail inviting the group to rally there. That his one one of the newer at 35 and the oldest were were 40 that year. They stood fast.

So, he went out to his coach and got the paper work to cancel all the reservations that had been made and then stood there while they wrote him the refund check.

He went up the way about 10 miles to another park and reset the rally for less money and everybody had a great time.

We shy way from places labeled "RV Resort".

  • You probably won't run into a reservation web site that asks the age of your rig and kicks you out if it's greater than some number. If you do, just enter fewer years :)

As stated, it gives the owner of the park the option to refuse you service and not be accused of discrimination.
  • If they have the 10 year rule you should look somewhere else to stay! If they really don't want you there you should just keep your money in your pocket and visit a campground where they remember what camping means.
One campground wanted us to send pictures of the coach, including all sides and the ROOF! Oh, heck no! We went somewhere else and so should you!
  • We have a 1990 Bluebird. Never a problem. If your MH is good looking, no matter how old, if you call for reservation, just tell them 7 years old. If looks good, should not be a problem.
  • Just a ploy to keep "Tobacco Road" out. Mine is 15 years old, never turned away...ever....for anything (0ther than a full cg) Of course, I keep the RV clean and running good.

    Lotta parks out there...
  • 10yrs but they tend to look the other way if the rig is in good condition.
  • 10 years but I've seen "many" going to 15. These are restrictions , at very few parks and of those small number that do , it is mostly on monthly or greater stays. In many states that gives " rights " to the renter making it difficult for them to evict problem tenants.
Except for the exclusive and very expensive "resorts" exceptions are made for meeting appearance standards .
We have a 13 , almost 14 year old high end coach that still looks new. I have never been stopped.
  • Yes, 10 years seems to be the normal age restriction. I've never encountered it or had a problem.

I think it's to give the CG the option to exclude a ratty looking rig.
Keep your equipment clean and maintained, I doubt you will have any problems.
  • 10 years is usually the cut-off - but we haven't encountered any of those situations in our travels. It's usually the "higher-end" resorts that have those rules.
