AHHHH Black Mold Under the Carpet!

While tearing up some old carpet in my RV, I discovered some patches of black mold about 2' x 2'

Tearing out the floor boards and replacing them IS NOT AN OPTION.

As this is a low budget project, I will only be using the RV for a few years to tailgate football games.

I plan to lay down some asphalt felt followed by another layer of plywood, followed by another layer of felt and a new floor surface.

My question is what can I apply to the mold to prevent it from spreading rapidly and keep out moisture?

thanks!
  • Chlorine bleach will kill it. Dry thoroughly and apply an oil based primer
  • As stated Bleach cut with about 25% water....After it dries, Oil based primer....
  • At least bleach the heck out of it to kill the mold. Keep applying until the black is gone.

Another even easier floor patch - If you can find an old aluminum sign. It'll span the damage and afford enough stiffness to walk on. Thin enough that you don't have to figure how to compensate for the thickness of your patch.
  • There are a number of mold control products. Google mold elimination products.

But the first thing is to determine where the moisture is coming from. Unless you find and eliminate that source, the problem will always be there.
