air compressor

I have a 32 foot class C, I would like suggestion on type of portable air compressor to get. Mainly for filling tires and air shocks. 12 volt vrs 120 volt. Thanks for your input.
  • I have a 25 gal compressor for the house, but I've been carrying around a 12 V compressor for years. It does an OK but slow job on 80# tires. Just yesterday I got a Porter Cable 3.5 gal. Compressor on ebay. This one works nice and fast. I think I'll still carry the 12V compressor for bike tires and other small stuff.
  • Thanks for the reply's. I have a 5 gal tank at home so I am looking for something to take with me in the rv for peace of mind.

    Thanks Dave
  • Yesterday I bought an air compressor at Home Depot for $79.00
It has the two gallon tanks. It takes about 20 minutes for it to reach 90 pounds and was ok filling the tires on my suv. I also looked at other compressors at Lowes and Sears, but they cost more. I have not tried it on my motor home where I will need it to air up my tires to 75 and 80 pounds. It runs on 110, which I can run on my generator. I would not suggest going with a dc compressor, for the reasons stated above. I am going on vacation next week and I will be taking it with me. With an extension cord, it will be able to reach any tire. That, and the Stop & Go tire puncture repair kit and I will be all set to go.
  • Planning on taking the compressor with you in the coach or will it be at your home base-- suggestions will be very different.
  • Most of the cheap 12 volt inflators will overheat trying to bring RV tires up to spec air pressure. There are a few expensive 12 volt compressors designed for off-road racers, etc. I have a 2 gallon 110 vac Campell Hausefeld compressor
that can top off 75-80psi rear duals but it takes patience, technique, and a good air chuck that seals properly and doesn't let air escape. I have run mine using generator power on the road to top off tires. Shop carefully. There are a lot of small capacity compressors intended for 32 psi car tires, useless for RV's.
