Air conditioner

We have been advised that we should leave our greyhawk class c plugged in with air conditioner on to prevent mold since we live in lower Alabama. Any comments?
  • Sure. Sounds good. Maybe set it for 85F so it doesn't run all the time. You could also get a dehumidifier and use that instead to save wear and tear on the A/C. But leaving it plugged in to charge the house battery and the refer running on AC to give it extra life is always a good idea. Especially in high humidity areas. Converters are well made these days and do a good job of keeping your battery in good shape too.

I added a small 1.5 amp Schumacher battery maintainer to my brothers RV to keep the engine battery charged too as most Class C's don't have a provision for that.
  • We have ran ours since new. Leave fridge door open wide.
    Never had a mildew issue.

Batteries will evaporate so check monthly.
  • We leave both roof vents opened year round, battery disconnected and fridge doors open and have zero mold issues in six years. We live near Talladega, Al and its 86° and 72% humidity righy now. I do roll out the awning at least once a month to dry out and check voltage on bsttery.
  • My class C had a 3 stage smart charger so I didn't worry about my b atteries staying charged when plugged in. I had a plug in voltmeter that stayed in the 12 volt outlet and checked it whenever I went into the MH. I did check my batteries for electrolite level and rarely had to add water. What type of power converter do you have that does not maintain the coach battery?
  • The only time ours isn't plugged in, is on the road. A/C is on at 80* in the summer, and a radiator oil type heater is on in the winter.
  • Our A/C runs during the day (Southeast Virginia) mainly to combat the humidity; the camper is plugged in whenever we're home like eHoefler's.

Interesting you brought up air conditioning: ours has been dripping/leaking a lot lately. While we were camping, DH moved the camper around just enough to relevel and it stopped. Now we're home and it's dripping again...usually doesn't and this has happened only about three or four times. I'VE ALREADY USED THE SEARCH THE FORUMS METHOD AND NO LUCK. Is it the hideous humidity we're having or the leveling (shouldn't be here at home as it's been the same for years)? Thanks for any ideas.
  • Remove the ouside cover and wash the pan out, it collects dirt and debris then grows stuff, you most likely have a drain hole or passage plugged up with debris.
