23" & 29" made a nice sounding pair as I recall. You need a pair with different tones. As one horn salesman told me while I was shopping, "a single horn will always sound like a single horn."
+1 on the multiple tones, this holds true even with electrics.
our coach had a single trumpet (and a single electric) on it from the factory - sounded stupid if not embarrassing.
