Troubleshooting Air Horns (UPDATE)

I'll find and test the solenoid today. Thanks for the information so far....and the humor..:W. Usually when we're setting up, I'm putting the windshield cover on and DW puts the cover on the steering wheel and 'tests' the horns....:) but they quit. I'll also check the smartwheel for a ground problem. Thanks again..Dennis

I highly recommend the Stebel horn. It comes with its own little compressor, costs about $30, only needs a relay to go with it, and sounds at 140 dB.

I have one in my motorcycle and in one of my cars.

With his DP, suspect that the air system (engine driven compressor, dryer, air tanks, etc) supply the air.

Is the compressor running? Are they aftermarket horns? Check for pressure at the tank.

Yes, go to the air solenoid that supplies air to the air horns.

Verify 12+ VDC to one side. Ground the other side momentarily. If horn works, probably a loose or bad ground in the horn ring/steering column.

On a similar topic, does anyone know where I can get a different( louder) horn to replace the oem electric horn in my 2013 e450 ford chassis ?
I would like to scare cars that cut me off

Dennis, are you sure they aren't working? The first thing I'd recommend is getting a step ladder and putting your ear in front of them while your DW tries them. Then, when you're sure they aren't working you can try the trouble shooting suggestions made by others. If you were mistaken, and they actually are working, you'll know it for sure.

You need to check to see if voltage is getting to the solenoid air valve, if it isn't you have an open somewhere in the circuit. If you do have voltage, then most likely the solenoid valve is faulty, or sometimes the inside valve assembly gets corroded from moisture in the system.

Had a problem with mine and I disassembled the valve, cleaned it out, it then worked.
