Dennis, are you sure they aren't working? The first thing I'd recommend is getting a step ladder and putting your ear in front of them while your DW tries them. Then, when you're sure they aren't working you can try the trouble shooting suggestions made by others. If you were mistaken, and they actually are working, you'll know it for sure.
