AIR PRESSURE IN CLASS A TIRES

If you have tire leakdown it will warn you so you can slow down and find a place to take care of the problem... Also with the temp monitor it helps to avoid steering tire blow-outs.. This is what the big trucks are starting to use, and it can save you money from ruined tires or vehicle damage...

Follow Born to Travel's advice....a tire pressure monitoring system monitors your pressures constantly allowing you to enjoy your coach without worrying about tire pressures. Weigh your coach first to enable you to properly inflate your tires. Once it's done, barring "issues" your tires should hold their pressure. My pressure has changed less than 2# per tire this year, and we've been through 18 States and Canada.....Dennis

I carry a very small 125lb compressor. I run 90lb so this one is fine for my needs.

Only had to use it once in 8 years when a valve extender leaked and a front tire went clear flat at a campground.

Took me about a half hour to fill it.

I think you'll find very little loss of air pressure in your 22.5 tires.

To answer yours and the OPs question, the optimum word in your question is: "Fill". To FILL a 22.5" tire from 0 to operating pressure would seriously tax a small air compressor that many of us carry. But, to "Top off" a tire of that size is not too hard on them but, they still have to work at it a bit.

While many diesel pushers have air outlets, hoses and air chucks supplied from the factory, as stated, many of us carry auxiliary small air compressors for various purposes. And the gas coach operators use them too. Ours is the popular Sears unit that pumps to 150 and is about the size of two brief cases glued together. I've purposely lowered the pressure in one of my 255/22.5 tires to 95 psi so I could see how fast it would refill it to travel pressure of 100.

Now, I can't remember because this little test was over a year ago but, I'm pretty sure that that little compressor topped off that tire to 100 psi in about one minute, maybe less, I'd have to try it again to reaffirm my statement here.

But, the point is, there are a few small, (not too small) compressors on the market that will help keep them up to par. I don't have the tool/part number for ours but, it's carried by many here on the RV.net site.

Something I found that you need to be careful about..... a typical compressor rated for, say 150#, usually has and upper & lower range. That is, the compressor turns on and starts building pressure in a tank until it gets to the max (150# in this case) then it stops compressing. It won't start compressing again until the compressor drops to some preset level - maybe 85#. then it turns on and compresses back up to 150#. The numbers vary and are just illustrative. But you can see, if you're trying to fill 125psi tires, the compressor has to be more than 125. So you pump up your compressor to 150, start filling the tire. If you don't get the tire up to 150, then you need to disconnect the compressor (which is likely about 120# now) bleed it so it turns on again and builds back to 150#.

So... it is really the "turn on" number that is pretty important. you'd like it to be greater than your needed tire pressure. Only problem, this turn-on pressure is rarely advertised with a compressor!

Many of us carry our own small compressor. Lots of portable models available that put out 150 PSI.

The best thing to do is weigh your coach and get the total & front and rear weights. It's important to fill them per the tire manufactures instructions and that depends on the weight front and rear. My fronts are more than my rear in pressure. Neither are over 100 psi and the listed side wall tire pressure max is well over 100 psi on the tire. depends on the total weight and how its distributed. My coach handles & rides way better at the lower pressure.

First off go weigh your MH and look at the chart or in your manual for air pressure. There are many portable compressors that go up to 125psi and are lightweight. Check at Harbor Frieght I have also seen them at Lowe's.
