Per the manual I have, it says that the typical sump temperature is
    200F.
It states that it considers the fluid overheated if the sump temp is above 250F, or if the Fluid to cooler temp is 300F or if the retarder out fluid temp is 330 F
  • Knowing the temperature does not help too much unless you know whether the temperature sensor is at the output of the torque converter(hottest point) or just reading the temperature in the fluid sump(coolest). The higher the temperature in the torque converter the sooner that you must change the fluid to prevent damage.
  • Mine usually runs a few degrees cooler than my engine temp when cruising. I see the temp go up in bumper to bumper traffic, slow and go traffic on hot days and right after a stop and shut down on a hot day.

The hottest I've seen it was 230 and started to panic. Later I checked and found that this is not really overheating for the Allison. I later set my SilverLeaf to warn me when it hits 235.
  • Mine is colder than hell, barely gets to 170 after hours of climbing grades.
  • Mine varies by ambient temperature, grade and speed but its generally around 205...The range is 195 to 215

Mine varies from 180 to 205 based on my Aladdin monitoring system. On a cold day it will stay at 180 but on a warm day it gets up to 200. On a hot day and many hours I've seen 205. On a long hard climb when the engine temp gets up to 210 the tranny will get that hot or a little more.
