cracked and leaked on a trip in 2012..cost me a $7000 engine repair
brand new plastic replacement lasted 2yrs
i recently replaced it with a powder coated steel one - Mark2005ExplorerHad a small crack develop in the expansion tank in our 2004 Monaco....happened in 2010....replaced with a OEM plastic tank and have not had any problems....I believe Source engineering in Eugene, OR. supplies a replacement...at least they had a display unit at a rally that I attended in OR. this summer.

100% correct. This is not a Cummins issue. It is a chassis manufacturer issue.

Just curious if anyone has had problems with cracking on the plastic coolant tanks. I've heard there's a metal replacement. Anyone switched? I have a ISC 8.3 350hp Thanks

Yes they don't do well exposed to sunlight.I changed my tank and now have a cover to protect it. Be careful as it is not a expansion tank like on a car it is under pressure like the rest of the radiator.
I have heard of some replacement tanks made of metal but haven't tried one. I think the last one lasted 10 years so if I can get the same or better service with the new one, protected from the sun, I will be happy.
