I'm heading to Fort Wilderness in a couple of weeks and the wife and kids will meet me there after I arrive. That means that I'll have to unhook my toad and back this 45 foot monster into a camping site all by myself.
I've done this before with my old 31 foot coach, but the process took a while with me stopping every few feet, checking everything and backing up a few more feet.
Do you have any tips that could help make it more efficient and safe?
Holstein, we were there in November (first visit) and it's a beautiful park. Be very careful going in as the front entrance 'kiosk/check-in' booth has a low roof as it was built in the early 70's. They are replacing it soon with a new higher roof. I remember you mentioning that you are the same height as we are (13'4").
We had to lower our coach all the way down and move slowly forward as not to turn the front wheels. Make sure and stay centered as they have wooden numbers that hang down from the soffit that you will hit at our height. Another clicker is, is that just before you exit from under the roof, there is a speed bump which lifts the coach just before it passes under the roof over-hang. We made it OK!
Once you pull off the main road to where the RV sites are located, the road is rather narrow and full of plantings on either side. I couldn't help brushing the bushes with my mirrors as I was backing in. And, I'm sure someone will more than likely come over to help you as your new coach will catch a lot of attention!
I've been known to back up a few feet and get out to check everything multiple times. It's much cheaper than risking damage to the coach.
