- So, why did I buy the level? I wanted to use it to trim the edges of the black walnut boards that I just planed.
Would I have to do this? No. A jointer would be a better bet. However, what if you don't have one? This is an alternative to having a jointer while still being able to create a nice straight edge, that can also be used to edge join 2 boards, to create a wider board!
The edge of this board as you can see is not "surfaced", or still rough cut. I am going to fix that.

That's been the case Nationwide for some time. No one can enforce it but that's what is expected. You may or may not have the virus but since you can "feel" perfectly fine, you may have the virus and pass it along to others. If you go out in public (despite the orders not to) you need to practice social distancing AND wear a face mask that cover your mouth and nose. It may not be you, but it may also be you! Glad to hear you were able to buy some glue, despite the stay at home orders, but do you really think that was a choice that was in the best interests of those around you?
1 person with Covid-19 will infect 5 others even if they are not showing any symptoms.
Based on the guidelines that were issued a couple of weeks ago, here, it's extremely unlikely we could have infected anyone. It's been recommended to use masks for a couple of weeks, which we do, and probably about 80% of the people we've seen out are doing so.
We keep our distance, as is recommended, as well as sanitizing our hands before going in the store, as well as when we come out.
Touched nothing inside except the glue, which the cashier did not touch, as he used the gun to scan it. The only transfer that occurred was when he handed the receipt to me, which would have not affected him at all.
Around here, both Lowes and Home Depot seems to be doing a good business. I guess, since people are stuck at home, they are doing those projects that they've not had time to, but now they do.
We stay at home as much as possible, as well as combine trips with getting groceries when we go out.
We've saved a bunch of money on gas the last month, though. That's one plus.
Hopefully, things will start to calm down, and we can get back to a more normal life, although, there are some things that I'm sure won't change.- Bill_SatelliteExplorer IIThat's been the case Nationwide for some time. 1 person with Covid-19 will infect 5 others even if they are not showing any symptoms. - Here's what I bought. A nice 6 foot long level, box style, instead of the I beam style. This one cost a few dollars more, but, is much more stiff than the beam style.
Why did I buy that? Because I could!
Well, something like that.
- Went to the Adult Drug Den for Males today, (Harbor Freight). They were only allowing x amount of people in the store at a time, so I had to wait outside in line, (I was 3rd), until other people came out, before I was allowed to go in.
I wasn't expecting that, and didn't ask, how many were allowed in at a time, but there weren't very many of us. I would guess no more than about 10 or 12.
As of tomorrow, in Pa, any time we go into a store, we need to have a mask on, or supposedly, we are not allowed in the store. We'll see if that is enforced. - Had some family time today. Got sidetracked, and got nothing done.
Hopefully, and update tomorrow! - Need to add the price of glue to our total cost in the spread sheet.
$30.72 including tax for the gallon of glue, added to our prior total of $9038.50, and we are now up to $9069.22. - I stumbled across something that would have been nice to have about 2 years ago. It turns out that Diablo people, make a saw blade that will cut through steel. I saw a video on the blade in action, and it produced very few sparks compared to using a abrasive wheel.
The saw cut through the steel very quickly. It looked quicker than using an abrasive wheel.
Here is a slightly larger pic of the center of the blade.
It says right on the blade, that it will cut steel plates and bars up to 1/2" thick, and angle iron up to 1/4". Threaded rod can be cut up to 1.5" thick. Wow!
If you go to Home Depot's website, and search for Diablo Steel Demon, these blades will come up. They come in different sizes. Perhaps, I'll have to give them a try some day.
Btw, they also come in blades for the reciprocating saw as well. - As you can see here, I decided to purchase a gallon of glue, instead of the smaller 16 oz bottles. That will be far cheaper in the long run.
The 16 oz bottles were $8.00. It takes 8 of those to make a gallon. That's $64.00. This gallon was just a little under $30, without tax.
If you are really into gluing things up, Home Depot has a 2 pack of gallon jugs of glue for $40, but they did not have them in the store. I decided not to wait. Don't know if I'll need more than a gallon or not for the rest of the construction.
- After acquiring more glue, I added the rest of the cedar boards on the upper end of the door, covered them with extra wood, and added more weight on top, and left it sit to dry.
