Anyone know the grade on Hwy 93 (Icefields Pkwy) in Alberta?

I have a 2008 38' Newmar Grand Star front-end diesel with 6.7 Cummins 340hp & Allison 2100. I tow a Jeep Wrangler. I know there is one steep incline on Hwy 93 between Lake Louise and Jasper. I'm worried about making the climb up and then descending back down.
Can anyone help with this? Am I ok or not? Does anyone know what that grade is?
  • No problems...Many smaller hills and there is one longish up and down (sort of a pass) but its not hard.
  • I also don't know what the grade is but we have done it a few times with the Revolution and at the time a Jeep Cherokee. No problem and don't even remember it being a white knuckler. Your only hazard is being distracted by the sceenery.

    Happy trails.
  • Thousands of fully loaded semi trucks, all classes of motorhomes, with and without assorted toads, travel trailers and fifth wheels travel it in both directions every year. No reason why you should have any trouble.
  • No bad at all, generally not crossing any mountain passes. We had NO problems at all, up or down (braking) with our V-10 c-class.
Some of the parking lot at sightseeing stops can be tight for MH and toad, others are spacious. Same as fuel stops, assess before committing.

  • I'm not sure of the grade % but you will be good to go with that weight.

Does your Newmar have an engine or trans retarder or both?
