Anyone with a Cummins 5.9 commonrail and Allison 1000

Newbie here and I hope someone has a class A motorhome with a 5.9 Cummins commonrail with an Allison 1000 (six speed) transmission and can help me out. A few years back I purchased a engine/trans combo from a RV salvage yard, who removed it from a partially burned 2008 Monaco. The year was correct for the six speed so I didn't give it another thought. Well turns out the transmission is in fact a Gen 4 (which is six speed capable) but the CIN number for the transmission control module (TCM) is only calibrated for five speed operation, so five speeds is all the transmission is being told to shift through. If I can get the CIN number from a TCM that is programmed for six speeds, I can have mine calibrated for six speed as well. Any help will be appreciated!

    That I don't know. Monaco was what came back when the numbers were ran. I'd imagine any CIN from a Gen 4 Allison 1000 mated to a 5.9 commonrail would work.

    I doubt you'll get through by phone to Allison, but how about shooting them an email. Ask them to outline the procedure, if it can be done, and then take those notes to a shop that can access the trans computer and follow the steps.

    Ok you said you bought it from a burned out 2008 Monaco so that's why I asked;; I never heard of or seen a 2008 Monaco motor home model that would have a isb with a Allison 1000

    It is possible but from what I understand there are driveline analysis as well as other considerations to be addressed before they would change the calibration. I am currently working that side as we speak, but there are no guarantees from what I've been told.

    Interesting post. I didn't know that a Cummins 5.9 was used with an Allison 1000 transmission. So I'll be watching this for more information.

    Talk to the Allison people. Whether you do or do not want the 6th gear depends on your weight and your engine to ground gear ratio. The engine to ground ratio is dependent on your differential gearing and your tire size. I retrofitted a Duramax diesel and an Allison 1000 from a 3/4 tn pickup to my coach but it is only 15,000 lbs and my gearing matched the pickup. With your numbers, Allison can change the shift points to suit your setup.

    real interesting because as far as I know there was never a 2008 Monaco that's used a 5.9 ISB

    I gathered that from the last post you made. All I have to go on was what the numbers on the components and the subsequent information provided to me. The purpose of the original post was meant to reach out to anyone with a motorhome with a cummins 5.9 commonrail with a Gen 4 allison 1000 which has a TCM that allows six speeds...If you have information that could be helpful, please provide it.
