Aqua Hot heating system & overall advice 2009 Monaco
Looking at a 2009 Monaco Dynasty 50k miles that has this system I’m very unfamiliar with. Opening one of the cargo doors there is a clear plastic tank and during my inspection it was not full which upset me as I told him I wanted everything full and operating when I arrived.
And this salesman is the type that, you know, the typical salesman that you can just tell once you buy it he’s not going to give you the time of day and answers questions and says things that are just totally wrong and he tries to ******** his way through everything.
He’s the worst type in short and just says **** that’s not true and you know it’s not true, in fact he appears to be very unfamiliar with how a class A even works. I am a first time buyer and I don’t know diddly squat about them and I knew much more than he did just by my research, being very mechanical and using common sense.
Example: The 4 house batteries were these huge gray very tall 6 V. He said all the batteries were fine and havd just been changed this year. So I open the compartment and on top of these 4 gigantic batteries is a small 12 V car battery wired in!!! LMAO. So basically the batteries are all shot and everything was running off this one car battery for the demo!!!! Needless to say he will be installing new ones.
But the story is not over as he said don’t worry about the engine batteries they are definitely brand new. He points to a label on top of the battery that said something like SJ18 and below it another number. He says see they are 2018. Now what gets me about this guy is I don’t really think he’s that stupid I just think he’s trying to prey upon my ignorance when I told him I’ve never owned one before!!! I quickly pointed out that that is not a date code and that’s a model number and if you look closely there is a date code on the other side but they never punched out the numbers so who the hell knows. I’ll be getting those two new as well!
Now with all that said, that I don’t trust the guy and I don’t feel comfortable with him, I still love this coach but you can tell it’s been worn. This dealer is just lazy like the outside was washed but it’s far from clean and it definitely needs a wax job because it just doesn’t shine like the other used ones I have seen. They did a quick wash and let it go at that. But I’m telling you all of this because of what he told me next about the Aqua Hot system and setting the groundwork for why I question him!
On the side of this tank there are two little tiny Phillips screws that stick out facing the door and there are small little rust marks running all the way down the tank from them. If I’m not mistaken there’s two or maybe three streaks coming from the now rusted screws. I don’t even understand to be honest why there are screws in the plastic tank or what the purpose of them are and I didn’t take a picture or spend a lot of time on it initially but now that I’m 99% getting ready to get it I am wondering if that indicates a real big problem? I wish I had studied it more but it was one of 100 things l glanced at at and made note to write on their list.
Being a plumber it looks like a small drizzle and nothing major at all and probably just small drops coming out of it over the years and I’m sure the easy fix is to unscrew the screw and put a rubber washer around it and screw it back in or an O ring or even silicone. And he said it’s not an issue at all to worry about. Which means nothing to me.
But I’m hoping maybe somebody can verify as I don’t want to get down the road in two months later find out I need a new tank at my cost. This is in a small city in Piedmont South Carolina about 30 minutes from Spartanburg or Greenville but there is nobody that’s local that I can get to go out there and do an inspection for me I’ve already tried.
Those are those things I’ve always been curious about because everybody everywhere always says get somebody to inspect it but in reality just how the hell does that play out? It’s not like they’ve got this guy sitting around waiting to drop what he’s doing and drive out to do a mobile inspection for you!! And even then you need 2 different people, a mechanic for the driving part and then RV guy for the house part and the slides. So it may be GREAT advice no doubt, but I just don’t see that actually happening in the vast majority of the cases.
I really feel helpless as I’m very mechanical and I was able to spot a lot of things but when it comes down to it I’m bullshitting my way through this and I would feel so much more comfortable having somebody who knows what the hell they’re doing look at the unit especially since I just don’t trust this salesman and he is the type they could be dumping something on me and would have no conscious about it the next night.
I’ve dealt with and been looking at a lot of dealers over the last six months and a couple I have felt really good about and I knew they had ethics and a couple I had so so feelings about, but this guy is the absolute worst in my opinion and the A typical salesman.
That doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with this coach and it could very well be in tiptop fantastic shape. All I’m saying is if it isn’t, I sure wouldn’t trust this guy to tell me about it! And you can tell he has no intention of spending too much on it.
So anything anybody can add about this Aqua heating system which handles the hot water as well as heat for the unit??? I think??? I would be very thankful :) as well as any other items I should be careful and look at as well!
