Are Tioga 31M m/h's equipped with inverter by Fleetwood?

Install the fuse or circuit breaker near to the battery. I would have used larger wire.

Sounds good, you still might want to consider a fuse. 30A ought to protect everything.

cgmartine, thanks for the follow-up report. Glad you have the inverter hooked up. Every class C is different so I'm not surprised your hook-up is different.

What size wire did you use? The longer the 12v wires, the larger they should be to limit the voltage drop. If you didn't put a fuse in, you might consider putting a fuse in the positive wire close to the battery, just in case.

Tenbear, I just finished installing my inverter, but I did it a little bit different that yours. I connected the positive and negative wires to the batteries, which are under the steps, then inserted the wires thru pre-existing holes next to the batteries, then fished them thru a cavity behind the sink. I wired the wires to the inverter, which I mounted against the back wall of the sink, away from any potential water source. I can connect an extension cord to the inverter as it is, but later on, I plan to run an electrical wire under the floor, and to the front of the motorhome, so I can run my DVD player, which runs on 110.

cgmartine, I have no photos of my inverter install, I can take some but it will be a few days. I'm not sure they would help much since my RV is very different than yours.

My battery is wired, by the manufacturer, to two studs with #2 AWG wire. One is insulated from ground and is the positive connection. The other is ground. I used #12 wire because that is what I had and I only draw about 10A for the inverter. I put a fuse in series with the 12V positive lead connected to the positive stud and ran the 2 wires, the positive from the fuse and a negative wire from the grounded stud, thru the floor to a 12v cigarette lighter receptacle on the dinette seat. That's all there was to it. The wires are about 3 feet long. I plug the inverter into the receptacle and run an extension cord if necessary to the item I want to power.

I just received a reply from Fleetwood regarding inverters, and they said that they did not install inverters in Tiogas, only converters. So, yes, I plan to install about a 300 watt inverter to solely run my DVD player (tv runs on 12 volt), which will run off two, 12 volt batteries located under the steps.

Tenbear, if there is any chance that you have and would share pictures of your setup, starting at the battery, I would appreciate it. I just want to get a better idea of starting on this project, although I have already checked out EBay and another forum, as well as this one, for more ideas. Thx for any help you can provide.

How big an inverter do you have in mind? I wired a receptacle to plug in my 300W inverter which I used for running the computer and charging cell phones.

Recently I bought a 12v adapter for the computer and 12v charger for the cell phone, about $25 for both of them including shipping, and haven't used the inverter since.

Of course, if you are thinking of a large inverter, that's a different story. Still not difficult to wire it in.

While not having a 31m, my 2006 Tioga 26Q came with a Converter/Charger.

No inverter.

The Inverter I installed was pretty straight forward using the correct wire size and instructions provided.
