Assist step for cab, Sprinter Class C RV?

Took our first trip in our new to us Itasca Navion (Sprinter-based) Class C. A few issues to address, but it was a lovely trip. Fun to drive, like a big version of the VW bus my bride had when we first got together (but with more power!).

One question: said bride is short, and has a bad hip. She was finding getting into the cab a chore, but would prefer not to go into the "house" and crawl down into the cab. Does anyone make a retracting assist step for the cab of the Sprinter?

  • Thanks. Some great referrals here. I've got a message in to the Winnebago parts house I'm using, and am waiting on an answer. I'll post an update with what I learn.
  • Hey Bill, I found pictures of Navions with nice looking steps. Here are a few. Maybe they are an option offered by Winnebago and Itasca. Maybe you can request a pair direct from Itasca. This should be very affordable and seemingly fairly easy to mount.

  • Bill,

If "Looks & Style" is just as important to you as functionality, you might be able to find a shop that can add the same compponents our RV manufacture puts on all it's rigs, both Sprinter and E-Series. The integrated step is friendly, functional, strong, and lights up nicely at night. If interested, call Phoenix USA and ask them who supplies them these components.

The door covers the step, exposed when the cab door is open. I wish I had a picture handy of the step with the door open.

Here is the same step on our E350. We don't have physical ailments but we both use the step all the time because it is just the right size placed perfectly.
  • I had a step made out of aluminum its about 18in long 14wide 8in tall works great and stores in the main rv door way when traveling. stopped at a metal shop and they made it up in less than a hr.
  • Until you find something better, you could get a small stepstool. Have her climb into the cab with its assistance, then you put the stepstool somewhere until time to help her down again. Some stepstools fold up for compact storage.
  • Our View came with sidesteps for the cab entry. Does yours have them?
