Atwood 6 gal gas water heater problems?

"Testing" an Ignitor board will NOT tell you the problem the OP has. His problem was lighting and running a few minutes and shutting down. THAT IS an indication you have a bad board. The Ignitor tester cannot test for this type problem. Doug

Thanks for all the ideas and comments, Guys! Think the board was the problem! Lucked out and found a new Dinosaur board on ebay for $47. Hooked it up a few minutes ago and off she went. Took about 20-30 minutes to heat up the tank. Voila! Hot water. The UIB S (small size) is a good fit in the tank's compartment. It doesn't come with a cover, so will have to order one. I put a Dino in my last MH furnace, and recommend. This has LED lights for power and valve open function. The connector plug goes right on the Dino board, no wiring.

Just thinking out loud here. Since the propane system was open while you changed out the refrigerator do you suppose there might still be air still in the system that hasn't worked through yet? Did you refill the tank with propane and maybe get contaminated gas? Can you bypass the tank and hook up to a different source of propane?

Took the board to another RV shop, same result, tested OK. Bypassed the thermal cutoff (which also was new). Replaced the igniter probe, cleaned every connection(many times!). All with the same result, Lights, runs a few minutes, shuts down. Shop fellow suggested lifting the safety valve lever to see if tank was actually coming to cutoff temp. No, luke warm. This would suggest a blockage if the unit had a bypass valve, which I checked, it doesn't. Went ahead and ordered a Dinosaur Universal igniter board, small size. We'll see what happens! This after just replacing the cooling unit on my Norcold fridge....was that a backbreaker, getting that thing back in the coach!

Clean the heat sensor tip a small piece ob carbon on will cause this problem. The probe can get dirty and not transfer heat. Also clean all contact on electric wires. There is a short jumper wire with what looks like a fuse in it. Jump the contacts and see it it will stay on. These are about all the simple fixes I can think of.

Check the outdoor shower and make sure the knobs are turned off. Happened to us last year and that was the problem. RV mechanic drove to our site and in 2 minutes it was fixed $100.00 later.:S

I would guess either dirt dobbers in the flue or the thermocouple is not correctly positioned in the flame.

Mine had the same problem a while back and I had to adjust the thermocouple.

Just went through the same thing with mine today, turned out to be a rusty ground connection. I would check these after doing these other suggestions.

just a guess, check to see if the flue is blocked. Dirt dobbers will work their magic in there.
