Awning Damage

Do most RV insurance policies cover damage done to an electric awning? I'm referring to a comprehensive/collision type insurance policy or an extended service plan such as Good Sams? Our RV repairman was surprised when we told him neither policy will cover our awning, which was damaged in a wind storm. Anyone out there with a similar problem?

  • My car was damaged by limbs that came off a tree in a wind storm and my comprehensive coverage paid out without any difficulty.
  • Progressive has covered mine before, mine was destroyed and had full replacement no cost to me.
  • Progressive covered our awning that was damaged in a wind storm; however, this was a few years ago.

If you have a good RV policy it should provide replacement cost coverage on attached equipment like an awning that is damaged during a covered loss. Windstorm is generally a covered loss.

  • Speaking from experience, I had an awning destroyed by the wind in a RV park and Good Sam, (National General,) replace mine at no cost to me. Now, I must say that was 6 years ago.
  • Collision is only due to the movement of a vehicle. A vehicle into yours or yours into another, one of the vehicles can be a parked vehicle.
Comprehensive is damage from an incident other than collision, like a falling tree, fire, vandalism, shopping carts or hail.
  • I can tell you from experience that the awning is covered by insurance if the damage is due to a collision (with a tree). From a wind storm or other natural disaster probably not
