Awning damaged by wind.

While in a campground, my main awning got hit by a sudden 40-50 mph wind burst yesterday bending the 2 slide arms. Has anyone tried to replace the arms and how difficult is it?
PS: It's an A&E carefree awning.

  • Just as a side note, this would be damage that is covered by the comprehensive portion of your insurance. That normally has a lower deductible and a claim on your comprehensive generally doesn't count as a ding against you to raise your rates.

They are not difficult to change, But if you are not aware of how to deal with (lock out) the the roll up spring, I'd take it to a repair shop

If not locked out, the roll up spring will discharge all its energy when the upper arm is disconnected.

  • Fairly easy to replace after you get the parts. Getting the parts is the hardest part.
  • We just went thru that, we ordered our new awning and arms from newmar. call the number on their web page. they were cheaper than CW and the local MH repair shop.
