They weren't hard to mount at all. The number of links can be adjusted to fit your installation, and lower hook rod has three different locations for fine tuning. You use your awning rod to hook and unhook it. I had wood behind the upper mounting plate, and for the lower piece, I used a sealer/adhesive so the screws weren't the only thing holding it. I used the same sealer/adhesive on the top too, just because it was already at hand. Just a sealer would have worked there.
